Description:

The West Highland Way is the classic long distance trail in Scotland, covering 96.5 miles between Milngavie and Fort William. The route passes through breathtaking scenery and renowned locations such as Loch Lomond, Glen Orchy, Rannoch Moor, and Glencoe, before finishing in the shadow of Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK. We are delighted to offer this guided hike along a route which few other companies guide. Being in the West Highlands is an unique experience.  Rugged and vast are good words to describe it.

Our hike commences in Milngavie, an affluent suburb of the vibrant and historic city of Glasgow. We kick off with a dinner on day 1 and begin walking on day 2.  Heading north and west, on the third day we arrive at the shores of Loch Lomond and continue along the remote eastern shore of the lake, with spectacular views.  Beyond the lake we hike two further days through Highland scenery to Bridge of Orchy, before crossing Rannoch Moor, one of the remotest places in the country. We arrive in Glencoe, scene of the legendary massacre, and amongst steep and rocky peaks. Our final two days lead us over the highest point of the hike on the Devils Staircase, before arriving in Fort William on day 9.  On the 10th and final day, onward travel options (if that interests you) from Fort William include the Great Glen and Loch Ness to Inverness, or the train to Mallaig and the western isles - as used in the Harry Potter movies!  If you are traveling home after the hike, you can take the train from Fort William to Glasgow.

We will stay in private hotels of 3 and 4 star quality, the best available along the route, with breakfast and dinner included.

This is an intermediate grade hike requiring a sound level of fitness, with no easy exit options (no support van) from the route each day. There is some sustained uphill hiking on a couple of days, and the underfoot conditions are challenging in places, especially along Loch Lomond’s shore where some occasional scrambling is required (there is an option to taxi around the scrambling stretch). The weather in Scotland is always unpredictable and some rain is to be expected.

Come with us and explore the beauty of Scotland.  This is your chance!

Additional Information:

This is a singular opportunity to hike the entire WHW trail

We will have 2 zoom sessions before the trip to review physical preparation and suggested gear and equipment.

Breakfast and dinner are included in the travel price.  Lunch and snacks are not.

Luggage will be transferred by car, leaving you to carry only a day pack.

The daily mileage is a bit deceiving, 8-15 miles per day, leaving one to believe the WHW isn’t that challenging, but the trail has some serious hills.

You are responsible for airfare to and from Glascow.  And for train travel from Fort William back to Glasgow, or wherever you will travel to next.
